Editors Note: When I visited the Nebraska Capitol to testify as a proponent to LB 574 on Feb. 8, 2023, I met this charming gentleman. He said he represented “Gays Against Groomers.” I went all fangirl and blurted “Omigosh I LOVE you guys, I follow you on Gettr!” He said he was from California, I’ve been to California. We talked about the contrasts between our states, and the many things we have in common. Mario came to Nebraska to share his story in the hopes of educating our Senators. When I asked him to share for our Substack, I was thrilled that he agreed. Thank you Mario, we appreciate you. —Sue Greenwald
Gays Against Groomers began when Jaimee Michell saw what was happening in the name of LGBTQ acceptance and could no longer stay silent. In June of 2022, she created the above-named handle on social media and reached out to content creators and activists she’d met on her journey as “The Gay Who Strayed”. I was one of the first people she enlisted in her fight to protect children from indoctrination, sexualization, and medicalization. The charter team members knew that the journey to protect children was not going to be easy or paved; in fact, the page was immediately suspended when Jaimee created a Tik Tok account, and the Twitter account was suspended several times before Elon Musk took ownership. The team has been called alt-right and transphobic despite having Democrats and several trans chapter leaders on the team.
As a grassroots organizer, I have obtained a win in my community through the passage of Ordinance 1577 in Palmdale, CA. This municipal ordinance protects my community from Los Angeles county and State of California overreach regarding covid vaccine mandates and third party sharing of data in order to gain employment, remain employed or be served by businesses. The first of its kind in our country, the power of home rule was flexed when several Federal Aviation contractors pushed federal vaccine mandates on facilities’ employees in Palmdale. When no law exists, a city code takes precedence as long as the law is not in conflict with the state or United States Constitution. Having been invited to speak at the state legislature in California and taught to lobby, when the opportunity presented itself to share my extensive knowledge with Gays Against Groomers, I jumped in with both feet.
Immediately, we set out to form teams to raise awareness around the country and join concerned and angry parents at their sides. We heard story after story of school districts bullying parents, physical obfuscation, and false allegations lobbied against anyone who disagreed with gender ideology creeping into school under the guise of LGBTQ inclusivity. What began as speaking at a school board in solidarity with an outraged father grew quickly into a national sensation as parents finally found voices from within the LGBTQ community sharing the same goal: protecting children from hyper education regarding sexuality until they’re mature enough to understand what it entails, and life-altering body modifications are not to be entertained by undeveloped minds.
When Scott Newgent asked me to join the team speaking in Nebraska a few weeks ago, I jumped at the opportunity. My goal as Director of Chapters for Gays Against Groomers is to teach as many of our team members as many skills as possible to advance our goal of ending the mutilation, sexualization, and sterilization of children. LB 574 in Nebraska is focused on the medical aspect of grooming, and I was the perfect candidate to speak on this topic. Having had many childhood procedures to correct a genetic defect, I understand the effect large scale medical procedures have on a child. Loss of instruction, loss of relationships, and lingering questions are best answered by adults communicating these ideas to their own children, not by a teacher, educator, or a stranger online.
Arriving in Lincoln early Wednesday morning with the team, I immediately set out to communicate our intentions and locate opponents of LB 574. Strutting the halls in 7 inch platform stilettos, a bow tie, and LED backpack, I very visibly broke the mold of what a supporter of the bill looks like. I had the pleasure of sharing an elevator with fellow open homosexual Senator John Cavanaugh who did his absolute best to try to ignore me. In a space that only fits 4 adults comfortably, the tension was only relieved when the door finally opened and he scurried out while refusing to take one of my business cards. He was later joined by Senator Machaela Cavanaugh and Senator Day during the ACLU press conference and subsequently surrounded by opponents of the bill in the capitol rotunda.
During the hearing, I paid special attention to Senators Cavanaugh and Day while testifiers were speaking and couldn’t help but notice they were paying little attention and instead communicating on their devices and passing handwritten notes. I was not the only one who noticed as the Nebraska Freedom Coalition also shared images of their disinterest and hostility towards any speaker who was not Nebraskan. Supportive members of the Nebraska State Legislature appreciated my presence, showed no aversion to my outward appearance, and in fact, were complimentary all day. Questions about why I wear uncomfortable footwear and how I deal with the pain were quelled when I explained that my suffering pales in comparison to those targeted for protecting our great nation.
Firsthand knowledge of a community is important information when dealing with sensitive topics, especially the medicalization of children under the guise of LGBTQ inclusivity and “being one’s authentic self”. I lived in the “community”, I experienced the good, the bad, and the tragic. Rainbows are born from the delicate combination of light and rain. Stand in the wrong place and you’ll never see it; cloud cover can prevent its full brilliance from showing, but if you stand in the right place, at the right angle, not only can it take your breath away, it may even duplicate itself. Gays Against Groomers is standing in the right place at the right time to vibrantly and valiantly protect the next generation.
