Who we are, why we matter, why you should help us.
The History of Protect Nebraska Children Coalition
In March of 2021, the State Board of Education released Health Standards that shocked the State. “Standards” are what school districts use to guide their curriculum choices, so they are important. The new Health Standards featured Sex Education that was more about race and gender ideology than anatomy, and introduced these concepts as young as Kindergarten. Fourth graders would learn about vaginal intercourse, fifth graders about puberty blockers, and seventh graders about anal sex.
A few startled parents initiated a Facebook group called Protect Nebraska Children. Within 2 months the group had 11,000 members, and by May there were 400 people showing up to the previously tame State Board of Education meetings. It was clear to the public that the State Board of Education had lost it’s way.
Protect Nebraska Children Coalition was formed from a group of these citizens who researched further. We learned that Planned Parenthood has a preferred curriculum to get students into their lucrative abortion and transgender hormone pipeline. It is called Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and details can be found at protectnebraskachildren.org.
PNC obtained public records disclosure of board member Deborah Neary’s emails. They revealed collusion between Ms. Neary, the Nebraska Department of Education Commissioner and his staff, the Women’s Fund of Omaha, and SIECUS:Sex Ed for social change. (siecus.org) to insert the Planned Parenthood sex standards into the otherwise teacher-led development process. It was the disclosure of those emails that finally led to the “tabled indefinitely” status of the Health Standards in August 2021.
The Nebraska Dept. of Education website at that time was replete with resources for teachers that promoted critical race theory, the 1619 project, and links to Marxist content and organizations. (After that content was publicly revealed, some was removed. Much of it is still there although harder to find.)
Further research into the Nebraska Dept. of Education revealed that in September of 2019, the Commissioner presented, and the State Board voted for, their plan to delete all references to “equality” from their official position statement, and replace it with the word “equity.” Those familiar with critical race theory will recognize this as a nod toward Neo-Marxist doctrine. The Commissioner followed that move with a public statement proclaiming that “social justice” and “anti-racism” will henceforth be the primary goal of Nebraska Education. The 2021 Sex Ed standards, and the rapidly collapsing levels of literacy in our 2024 schools, are a direct result of those priorities set in 2019.
PNC-PAC Shines in 2022
Some major house cleaning at the Nebraska Dept. of Education and the State Board of Education was clearly in order. The Protect Nebraska Children Coalition assisted in the formation of Protect Nebraska Children PAC. The goal was to replace 4 state board members in 2022. Many Nebraskans donated a few dollars a month, and every penny was used on the campaigns of our 4 candidates. Three of them were elected. Sherry Jones, Kirk Penner, and Elizabeth Tegtmeier. Unfortunately, Deborah Neary retained her seat with the help of large donations from the NSEA, and Planned Parenthood and their affiliates.
Five of the eight current State Board of Education members are still believers in anti-racism over reading, and transgender over science. The old Commissioner of Education, seeing the writing on the wall, resigned to become a lobbyist for his “social justice” causes. The new Commissioner was hired by the current board.
Fighting to Protect the Minds of School Children
The State Board of Education is a non-partisan race. There are no R’s or D’s on the ballot, but it is imperative that every citizen understands who they are voting for in 2024. The days of retired teachers running unopposed are over. The battle for the minds of our young people is a serious one. Activist teachers are implementing race and gender theory lessons right under the noses of parents in every single school district across the state. Don’t think it isn’t in your school. It is. Even at Omaha Westside, considered one of the premier school districts in the state, administrators admitted their daily efforts to confuse and lie to parents. Remarkably, the only consequences for the people on this video were positive ones. They were celebrated by the Ed community for their efforts. See video HERE.
Every District Matters in a Statewide Race
Nebraska has 8 state board electoral districts, so you may have voted for your board member in the western part of the state in 2022. If you are in the eastern part of the state, you will likely get to vote in 2024. The thing is, it doesn’t matter where you live or who your representative is. Without 5 or more conservative board members, many schools will continue to struggle, and tax money will continue to go to liberal pet causes. If we can gain a majority- as Kirk Penner likes to say- everything changes. No matter where you live, the outcome of this election will affect your children and grandchildren in a major way. If you want sanity restored to your schools, you must pay attention to this race. If you don’t have an open seat in your district this time, help another district’s candidate. Text, phone or email your friends in the active districts. The open seats will be in Districts 1 through 4. Share this article with friends.
Finish the Flip in 2024
There are currently 3 candidates supported by Protect Nebraska Children-PAC for 2024. District 1: Liz Davids, District 2: Dr. Linda Vermooten, and District 3: Lisa Schonhoff. It is up to you whether that support is large or small. There are no administrative costs at this PAC. It is an all-volunteer crew. We offer mentorship and grassroots support to our candidates, and they are like family to us. But there is only so much we can do without funds. The other side has nearly unlimited teacher union and Planned Parenthood money for mailings, radio ads and yard signs. Our side has only us. One time donations, or monthly donations of even a small dollar amount can make a huge difference for our candidates if many people participate.
If you care about the direction of education for Nebraska’s children, please give generously. We are grateful to you, and future generations will thank you.
