The US Department of Education has been taken out of the picture by the Trump administration. The Nebraska Dept. of Education (NDE) will be much more in the driver's seat in the coming years regarding funding priorities.
Let’s pick a problem such as discipline. Recently, federal dollars have mandated things like “reparative justice” and hands-off methods of discipline.
Teachers have been clearing the classroom to allow one student to have a violent melt-down, rather than putting a stop to the offending behavior. They won’t have to do that anymore.
That is just one example of the massive opportunity this is for Nebraska Education to leave failed policies behind, and start to fund what works for US!
Remember, half of our Nebraska state school board members are now conservatives. It is imperative that conservatives among the public be heard at these sessions. While there is still a woke flavor to the NDE staff due to past hiring practices, there is also a true desire to improve math and reading scores.
The social justice warriors always show up, so we owe it to our conservative board members to be present, and represent the common sense views of parents. This support will give the NDE and the State Board the mandate they need to steer the education ship away from the culture wars, and back to books.
Here is the NDE press release:
Nebraska Department of Education Seeks Public Input on New Strategic Plan Through Statewide Focus Groups
The Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) is developing a new strategic plan that will shape the future of education in the state. To ensure this plan effectively addresses the needs and goals of Nebraskans, the NDE is actively seeking input from stakeholders across the state through a series of focus groups from April 14th through May 7th.
The strategic plan will serve as a guiding document for the State Board of Education and the NDE in the coming years, outlining key priorities and strategies for improving educational outcomes for all Nebraska students. Recognizing the importance of community involvement, the NDE is committed to creating a plan that truly reflects the diverse perspectives of educators, parents, students, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
The focus groups will provide a platform for participants to share their insights, experiences, and ideas on a range of topics related to education in Nebraska. The NDE encourages individuals from all backgrounds and sectors to participate and contribute to the development of this important plan.
Information regarding the dates, times, and locations of the focus groups, as well as registration details, can be found on the Nebraska Department of Education website at
https://www.education.ne.gov/commiss.../2026-strategic-plan/
The NDE is committed to transparency and public input throughout the strategic planning process. All feedback received will be carefully considered as the department develops its final plan.
I can feel the eye rolls and skepticism. For a decade, parents have been stiff-armed in multiple ways by the education cartel. That cartel was largely funded by the feds.
In the last four years, Nebraska has gained a new Commissioner of Education, Dr. Brian Maher, who has an open door policy. We have also gained a board of education that is balanced, meaning only half of them are controlled by money from the NSEA and Planned Parenthood.
We have the Trump administration putting the wind in our sails.
It’s not perfect, but we can work with it. All we have to do right now is show up. Starting tonight in York, if you can.
Please mark your calendar and go to one of these sessions near you. This is important.
