Wednesday morning Nov. 1, 2023, a parent protest took place outside of Waverly, Nebraska middle and high schools.
The controversy leading to the protest actually began in August when 8th grade students were assigned to research 4 of the 7 following topics:
Celebrating Pride
Celebrating Women’s History
Celebrating Black History
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage
Celebrating Asian Pacific Americans
Celebrating Men’s Health
Learn and Love Diversity
One mother quoted by the Lincoln Journal Star said her 8th grader was asked to research topics like the history of the LGBTQ+ community, the Black Lives Matter movement (which recently celebrated Hamas terrorism), and gender dysphoria.
The lesson was cancelled as it had not been reviewed in regard to meeting state standards, according to the principal.
Given the Nebraska Dept of Education replaced “equality” with “equity” in their position statement in 2019, and declared “anti-racist teaching” to be a top priority of Nebraska education in 2020, and provides a nice variety of “anti-racist” resources on their web site, is it any wonder the teacher would assume there was a green light for this type of tribalist content?
The mother said that students are being taught “hatred toward law enforcement and that certain races are oppressed while white people are privileged-an allegation denied by the school.”
To schools in denial: you are not fooling anyone. You are implementing critical race and gender lessons into every subject. That is the whole point of “Transformational” Social Emotional Learning for crying out loud. We have all seen the Westside video. Gaslighting about this is so 2021. You know you are doing it, we know you are doing it, and you know we know you are doing it, and you don’t care. You are on some Zinn Project mission to collectivize everyone’s kids and we are done pretending otherwise. It’s so ingrained at this point that you can say “Celebrating Pride” and no one questions whose Pride you might be referring to.
Looking at that list of topics, one has to wonder why Women, Blacks, and Hispanics have “History or Heritage” but Men only get “Health” and Asian Pacific Americans get nothing. What is “Learn and Love Diversity?” One hesitates to ask.
It would be interesting to know which resources the teacher was planning to provide students for their research. No doubt this “anti-racist” book would be one of them, and as a bonus, it provides accelerated reader points; because every 13-year-old needs a dose of a race-baiting grifter like Ibram Kendi (not his real name).
As far as “Pride” and “Diversity” are concerned, the students might as well be studying world religions. Many scholars have noticed the religiousity of the secular humanist movement. One of them was Bennington, Nebraska mom Kathy Faucher who wrote about how she successfully opted her child out of SEL and other harmful lessons on the grounds of religious freedom. See her article, and download her opt-out form HERE.
Alas, school choice will not be available for this generation of Nebraska parents, so there are only 3 options. Surrender your kids to the woke religion, home school them, or get creative.
Going with option 3, another group of Nebraska parents, inspired by Kathy, put together their own opt-out form. It is a novel approach based upon US law, and you can download it here.
These parents listed 26 public school “partners” that they do not want influencing their children. They admit it is not an exhaustive list. I can think of some I would add.
This list really brings home the point that there are dozens of leftist vendors and non-profits actively involved in public school education. Having researched and written about these entities in the past, I can attest that many of these organizations are not only funded through our federal taxes, but also are financially supported by World Economic Forum aligned billionaires. The non-profits on this list nearly all have “transforming the culture” as part of their mission statements.
Where are the federally funded “partners” who espouse Judeo-Christian values?
This Nebraska parent group anticipated the usual pushback. They provided their persuasive justification which you can download here:
Definitely food for thought.
Parents, what will you do about your school’s “partners?” Are you satisfied with the woke religious training being perpetrated in public school?
